Rachel and Lisa set up their absolutely amazing business, Cut Me Off A Slice, over five years ago, and it has quite literally gone from strength to strength.
Now an award winning business, the Devon based ladies are busier than ever, producing some of the finest wedding cakes in the land! I cannot honestly say I’m not surprised though, having tasted their delicious cakes, I happily recommend them to many of my wedding couples.
With flavours such as chocolate orange, carrot cake, cherry bakewell and even prosecco and raspberry (yes please!) there is no end to their talents!
With January being a super busy month for wedding enquiries, we chatted to super lovely Rachel to find out her top tips for designing your perfect cake…
Firstly : Decide on a style. Some couples know exactly what they want with regards to cake style, or have seen a specific design in mind. However if you are unsure it maybe worth looking at the other elements of your wedding; as they can serve as great inspiration for us as a cake designer. We love to take elements from your wedding dress, flower arrangements and stationary and create a bespoke cake just for you.
Size it up : Generally speaking our 3 tier cakes will feed up to 70 finger portions or 4 tiers up to 130. You also may like to consider where in the day your cake is being served. If you are having a specific ‘coffee and cake’ moment in your bid days scedule you would want to gurantee every day guest has a slice. However if you are serving with the buffet you can feed as many of your guests as you would like. A lot of our couples keep the top tier for themselves to eat the days following the wedding as there is a lot going on they may miss their moment.
Flavours : We supply all our customers with a taster box of our 4 most popular flavours so they can be sure we produce a cake that not only looks great but tastes great too. We have a lovely range of flavours, and you can have a different flavour on each tier. You can select a different flavour to add variety or go for all one flavour so everyone is guaranteed to get a slice.
Consider your budget : It goes without saying the ‘grander’ the cake the more expensive it will be. Let us know your ideal budget and we can make various suggestions to create a statement centerpeice without breaking the bank. Fresh flowers are a wonderful way of dressing a wedding cake, tieing in your floral arrangements to the cake design and ultimately make the cake less expensive.
